Top 10 Budget Chef Tips
By Brianna McMullen

.)Coupons, Coupons, Coupons! I know it doesn’t seem like much for $.40 off that box of pasta, but the truth is, it all adds up!

.)Buy your meat from the Deli part of the store if available, its generally cheaper, fresher, and they will even precut it if desired.

.)Freeze meat in freezer safe bags to keep fresh. It also makes meat much easier to cut very thinly for those stir-fries!

.)When boiling pasta, lightly spray the inside of the pot with a nonstick spray before adding the water. This will keep the pasta from sticking.

.)When peeling whole cloves of garlic, put them in the microwave for 3 seconds at a time. Having them slightly warm makes the outer coating slide off with ease.

.)To keep your eyes from watering quite as bad while dealing with onions, place them in the freezer for 15 minutes prior to chopping.

.)When making a salad, always tear the lettuce, never use a knife, unless it’s a specialty plastic one made for it. The metal in knives will leave your lettuce brown in a very short matter of time.

.)Go to a farmers market. They have the freshest foods available, and often sell you more food for less than you would pay in your supermarket.

.)Never throw away a bottle of opened wine if it is no longer drinkable. As long as it has been sealed so that particles in the air were unable to get in, it is perfectly good to add to stews as a base.

.While making a tomato-based sauce, they sometimes tend to be a little to acidic. If that happens to you, add a teaspoon of baking soda to counteract the acidity.
